Stavros Gasparatos

 

Stavros Gasparatos is a composer and sound artist. Apart from his solo projects, he composes music for dance, theatre and cinema.

His music has been performed in all major Greek theaters and concert venues (including the ancient Epidaurus theatre, the Onassis Cultural Centre, the Megaron Concert Hall, etc) and also in London, Paris, New York, L.A., St. Louis, Macao, Rome, Napoly, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Munich, Toronto, Sofia, Amsterdam and other. He has composed music for over 130 productions and he is considered as one of the most important and prolific composers of the new Greek generation.

Gasparatos composes minimalist, instrumental and experimental music as well as site specific sound installations. From 2017 he is the artistic coordinator of the Transmedia Lab of the Greek National Opera, while in 2019 he was appointed as a Board Member of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival (Greek Festival S.A).

 

 

Releases – Major projects:

  • In 2022 he premiers “LAPSE” at STAVROS NIARCHOS Cultural Center in collaboration with Lars Jan.

  • In 2020 he composes the music for the presentation event for the new Acropolis Lighting design.

  • In 2019 he composes the music/sound for “Figures” and “Together” Choreographed by Maria Hassabi. Premier at Performa 2019, New York.

  • In 2019, he premiers “Rage Park” his latest piece at the Athens International Festival

  • In 2016, he scores “Recess” the first part of “Rules Of The Game” Choreographed by Jonah Bokaer. Co production of the Dallas Opera and BAM – New York.

  • In 2015, he premiers “Triple Echo” (audio installation, music-dance performance) at Onassis Cultural Centre New York, in collaboration with choreographer Jonah Bokaer.

  • In 2015, Ad Noiseam (Berlin) released his new album “Expanded Piano”

  • In November 2014, he presents his new piece “Expanded Piano” in EMPAC (Experimental Media And Perfoming Arts Centre) N.Y. - USA

  • In October 2013, Ad Noiseam (Berlin) released his new album “Seven”

  • In 2009 he composed the music for the opening ceremony of the New Acropolis Museum

    in Athens.

  • In 2008 he released “Rehearsals” (compilation of Theater Music)

  • Awards:

  • In 2009 he received the “Young Artist Distinction” by the union of Greek theater and music critics.

  • In 2013 he received the Hellenic Film Academy Award for Original Score for the Movie “My blood” by D. Karanastasis

  • In 2017 he received the first price at the “Drama film festival” for Original Score of the “MANEKI NEKO” by M. Mavris

  • In 2015,2017,2018 and 2020 he received the Athinorama audience award for his work in the Theater.
